Mrs Hall
Congratulations Mrs. Ida Pauline Hicks Hall, Harnett County Training School Class of 1940!

Dr. Aaron L. Fleming, Superintendent of Harnett County Schools, had the pleasure of presenting Mrs. Ida Pauline Hicks (Hall) her honorary diploma in recognition of her graduation from Harnett County Training School in 1940. This momentous occasion took place where her school once stood, over 83 years ago.

Harnett County Training School, also known as Harnett High School, was a historic school for African American students. The school complex was built between 1922 and 1956, in Dunn. Today, the school site is currently listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Mrs. Hall is a centenarian who will be celebrating her 101st birthday this May. She is considered a staple in her community and is loved and respected by many. Ida always stressed the importance of a good education. Unfortunately, she lived in a time when working the family farm and fulfilling other responsibilities took precedence over anything else. She regretted not being able to attend her graduation to receive her diploma.

Thanks to her god daughter, Jackie Bailey Lawrence, Joyce Bailey Stephens, school district staff, and leadership, we were able to honor Mrs. Hall’s wish! Mr. McPherson, principal at Harnett County Early College hosted this memorable event, as students joined in celebrating the accomplishments of Mrs. Ida Pauline Hicks Hall.

Mrs. Hall was all smiles as she thanked everyone for the “best day ever”. She said that the secret to long life is trusting her faith, to always treat people right, and to live a life of gratitude.

Thank you, Mrs. Ida Pauline Hicks Hall. You are a living testament of our history, and an inspiration for the future.
