Model UN

Model UN Conexiones Middle School Competition

Model UN is a simulated debate where participants assume the role of representatives from different countries and discuss real-world issues related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals in the United Nations Assembly.

This year's topic was Water Scarcity. Approximately 2.4 billion people do not have access to clean drinking water. Climate change, our growing agriculture needs, and water source pollution degrade water supply.

The students were challenged to discuss collaborative ways for nations can work

together to solve this global problem... in Spanish!

Participants were divided into groups and assigned a country to represent. They were required to research the country’s stance on the issue, study the issue at hand, and delegate a representative to present the opening arguments during the formal debate. This provided them an opportunity to learn about a different perspective and have empathy.

We are so proud of our students for demonstrating their language proficiency and developing a greater understanding of global issues.

Thank you to dual language teachers, Thais Bustos, Diana Wyld, and Valentina Cubillos for your dedication to create such opportunities for students and inspiring learners to become leaders!
