HCS Athletic Spotlight: Coach Chris Godfrey

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month! We would like to celebrate by honoring Coach Godfrey, who is retiring this year after 33 years. He has taught and coached his entire career here at Western Harnett Middle School. He has coached soccer, boy’s basketball, girl’s basketball, softball, baseball and football. He was involved in coaching 2 basketball championships, 2 baseball championships and 10 football championship teams.

“I’ve had the pleasure to work and coach alongside Coach Godfrey for 33 years. He is hardworking, dependable, enthusiastic, caring and has high moral values as a coach and person. He epitomizes what we should all look for in a coach and a mentor for our children.”

“He is very humble and does not like the attention coaches sometimes receive. He would rather all positive attention be given to his players. I know the knowledge of the sport and the instruction of skills he instills in his teams benefit them on their field of play but more importantly being in his presence on a daily basis and having him as a great role model will positively influence their lives off the field for the rest of their lives. I know that my life has been greatly enriched and I’m a better man for being a friend and colleague of Coach Chris Godfrey”.
