Harnett County Schools Counselor Of The Year
Congratulations to Kathryn Englander of Coats-Erwin Elementary School for being awarded HCS Counselor of the Year!

Mrs. Englander has been a counselor for Harnett County Schools for 13 years. She grew up in Halifax, Virginia and moved to North Carolina to attend Meredith College where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with Minor in Communication. She continued my education at Campbell University and obtained a Master of Education in School Counseling.

When asked what inspired her to become a school counselor, she shared that when she was in the 3rd grade, “My mom reached out to my school counselor, Ms. Spencer, who met with me and supported me through that difficult time. She listened to my feelings and helped me work through my grief. It was through that experience that I decided I wanted to be the person who helps others one day. Being a school counselor allows me to help others feel heard and, hopefully, make the same positive impact that mine did all those years ago.”

Mr. Jermaine White, Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services at Harnett County Schools said, "I am so thankful for Mrs. Englander's contributions to Harnett County Schools and Student Services.  She is a shining example of the best school counseling has to offer and I look forward to her continued success in the district."

School counselors play a crucial role in student success. They work with staff and parents to maintain a healthy learning environment by helping to manage behavior, facilitate academic success, and by supporting our students through various hardships. We are grateful for all they do for Harnett County Schools.
