JAGUARS RISE: Mr. Bacong

R.I.S.E. is a supplementary remediation and enrichment program centered on Overhills High School’s core values of respect, integrity, service, and excellence. Founded by former principal, Chris Pearson in 2018, it has persisted as words to live by at OHS.

Current principal Jeffery Booker, believes that R.I.S.E. is more than words on the wall, “It is the manner in which we strive to do all things”. He dedicates his service to create an environment where students and staff are accountable to conduct themselves with integrity and treat each other with respect. He promotes a culture of service and excellence by providing support and encouragement. Mr. Booker is honored to serve the Overhills community and grateful for his faculty and staff.

Jose Eric Bacong, an honors math teacher, was part of the original team to bring R.I.S.E. to life. As a current program ambassador, he is a huge part of planning and implementation.

His favorite part of the program is the positive feedback he receives from students and fellow educators. He said the program helps increase overall student achievement by expanding lesson principles surrounding the R.I.S.E. core values, “but it is so much more than that. We also integrate college/career readiness, safety, and other tools to help students succeed.”

Each teacher puts R.I.S.E. into practice daily, by offering support in the form of coaching and tutoring. They challenge students by encouraging them to rise to the next level; go beyond to enhance their current knowledge.

Through remediation and enhancement, students can reach their full potential and optimize academic achievement.
