HCS CTE STEM Lab
We approach the end of CTE Month with the onset of Public Schools Week. There is always something to celebrate at Harnett County Schools!

Mr. Dave Brown has been teaching for over 16 years. He came out of retirement because of his desire to regain a sense of purpose and fulfillment. He found both, teaching College and Career Readiness at Western Harnett Middle School. He said that his favorite part of the job is the dynamic interaction with the students and teaching lesson principles like personal finance, that will prepare them for the world.

Students work at assigned lab stations where they experience hands-on, and work-based learning that are both engaging and educational. Implementing and expanding CTE programs in middle school empower students to get a head start on their future. These CTE/STEM lab stations are hubs for innovation and creativity that allow students to discover meaningful direction toward the next step in their career development.

8th grader, Liam O’Leary shared that exploring his interests and skills over the last 3 years has helped him narrow down a career path. In Mr. Brown’s class, he was able to explore manufacturing, veterinary medicine, childcare, laser technology, and structural engineering. “I plan on becoming an officer in the United States Air Force working in engineering or aviation, maybe both!”

We are excited for these learners as they continue on their educational journey to become the innovators, problem solvers, and leaders of tomorrow. We are grateful for Mr. Brown and all of our CCR/CTE educators for paving the pathway to their success.
