Love the Bus: Bus Safety

As #LoveTheBus Month comes to an end, it is important to recognize the importance of school bus safety all year long.

Bus safety starts with each of us, whether we are passengers, pedestrians, or drivers. Stopping for the bus is not just a courtesy. It’s the law.

Reminder! When you see a school bus with its amber lights flashing, you must slow down and prepare to stop.

In the following situations, traffic approaching the bus from both directions, must STOP for the bus to allow children to cross:

  • On a two-lane roadway
  • On a two-lane roadway with a center turning lane
  • On a four-lane roadway without a median separation

Every time you illegally pass a stopped school bus, you put a child at risk.

School buses in the district are equipped with stop-arm cameras to detect the license plates of drivers that illegally pass stopped school buses and endanger the lives of children.

Stop for the bus. Keep our kids safe
