GEOLOGIC TIME SCALE: A Walk Through Earth’s History at Highland Middle School

The Global Time Scale is a representation of time based on the rock record of earth… that is about 4.6 billion years!

8th grade students from Jennifer Calcerano’s science class at Highland Middle School tackled this huge body of knowledge on the football field. As a team, they were engaged in various interactive activities that allowed them to gain visualization of time periods, helped them remember vocabulary words, and enabled them to grasp the concept of the GTS.

This event allowed students to showcase their creativity and verbalize knowledge through their projects and presentations. Many of the students on-site expressed how much they had working on this project and how they loved the hands-on experience. Student, John (Riley) Philipps, says that hands-on assignments give him a better connection and a better understanding of the work.

Kudos to Ms. Calcerano for creating this enhanced participatory learning environment, where all learners were engaged and actively involved in shared learning! https://youtu.be/2aHpG6kG8ys
