BLUE OUT for Senior Night! #GoHawks!

Calling all juniors in high school! Apply today to serve as a Student Advisor on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. If you are interested in state education issues, advocating on behalf of your peers, and serving as an advisor to decision-makers in K-12 education, this application is for you!
The Student Advisory Council meets monthly, and members serve a two-year term that concludes at the end of their senior year of high school. Throughout the appointment, advisors hear from experts at the Department of Public Instruction, State Board of Education, the General Assembly, and the Governor's Office, among others, to learn about issues facing our state and what can be done to support students, teachers and our local school districts and charter schools.
At the conclusion of each year, advisors present a proposal to address an evolving state education issue to the Superintendent and other state leaders. Whether you attend a charter school, laboratory school, residential school, traditional public school, magnet school, year-round school - this opportunity is for you!

NCDOT Launches Garrett A. Morgan Page Program for High School Students
RALEIGH – The N.C. Department of Transportation is launching a new page program and encouraging North Carolina high school students to apply for the program so they can spend a week working for the agency to learn more about careers in state government and the transportation industry.
The Garrett A. Morgan Page Program runs from March 24-28 and is designed for high school juniors and seniors attending Title I schools in North Carolina. Title I is a federally funded program that provides financial assistance and support to schools with high numbers of students from low-income families.
“NCDOT is committed to fostering the next generation of leaders in transportation,” said Christy Dunston, director of the NCDOT Office of HBCU Outreach. “The Garrett A. Morgan Page Program not only honors an important figure in our history, but also empowers students by providing them with valuable insights and experiences that can shape their future careers.”
Participants will engage with NCDOT professionals, enjoy hands-on activities, ride a state train, and learn about transportation planning, environmental analysis, public transit and public safety.
The program is named for Morgan, an African American inventor who created the modern traffic light 1923.
The program runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily the fourth full week in March at NCDOT's Highway Building, 1 South Wilmington St., in Raleigh.
Interested students from Title I schools are encouraged to apply and learn more.

SGA is leading Triton in the national initiative for mental health awareness and suicide prevention, P.S. I love you week. This is an annual event for us, so some of you are familiar. For those who aren't, SGA students will be doing small things around the school to bring awareness to "stop the stigma" around mental health. We appreciate your support and participation. 😃
