School Psychologists
School psychologists are professionals with extensive training in conducting psychoeducational evaluations including autism evaluations for educational purposes, counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy, consultation with faculty and parents for the advancement of our students, effective educational practices and research-based interventions, and behavioral modification.
One of our largest roles as school psychologists is to evaluate and assess students to determine whether or not they are eligible for the Exceptional Children’s Program in Harnett County Schools. After the evaluation process is completed, the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team convenes to determine eligibility based on the evaluation results and information from all other aspects of the child’s educational surroundings. Evaluations that are conducted on a student who has never been evaluated before are called initial evaluations. Those students who are already in the Exceptional Children’s Program may be reevaluated to determine appropriate services. Evaluations may look very different depending on the student’s needs, as we always take factors surrounding the child and their level of functioning into account. It is our goal as advocates for students with disabilities that each and every student in the Exceptional Children’s Program receives the aid they need to be successful in school.
